Sunday 4th of February 2018

It was a sunny Sunday morning and Hartshill Strollers over 50s had the 1st leg of the Winter Shield against Hindlip from Worcestershire.

In the first half, both teams were looking for a way to unlock each others defence, it was end to end stuff, there wasn't many shots by either team and then after 15 minutes, Adrian Chilton put the ball in the back of the net, this spurred Hartshill on and they were shocked when the referee gave a penalty to Hindlip for a Hartshill player going into his own area, this decision was very close and the spectators were calling for the VAR, Paul Roche went the wrong way as Hindlip made it 1-1, the half time whistle went not long after this.

The second half started better for Hartshill who had more of the ball but couldn't get past the Hindlip goalkeeper who made some good saves, Ray Woodhall was sent to the sin bin for 2 minutes for a reason not properly explained, Hindlip were also attacking determinedly but Paul in goal kept them at bay, this continued until near the end of the game when Hindlip also had a man sent to the sin bin, with just a couple of minutes to go, Gary Davis found himself with just the goalkeeper to beat and he put the ball between the sticks, Hartshill defended until the end for a 2 - 1 victory.

We look forward to the next leg away to Hindlip on Sunday 18th of February.
