HARTSHILL Strollers lost 0-1 to Beechcroft in the second leg of the Local Derby Winter Shield on Saturday, December 12.

The result squares the six-match series for the Over 60s at one a piece as we won the opening match 5-2 in November.

Hartshill fielded a strong team and were hopeful of completing the double against the host club and in the opening phases of the game were unlucky not to go ahead.

But Beechcroft played cannily in a finely-balanced match and squeezed in the only goal. In the second half, we lost our shape and focus and were lucky not to go further behind.

Man of the Match was ‘new find’ goalkeeper Kevin Weston who pulled off a string of spectacular saves and prevented at least four ‘certain goals’.

The remaining four fixtures of the shield will take place in the New Year.

TEAM: Kevin Weston, Bernard Bustin, Mick Burdis, Pete Elwell, Peter Marsden, Bob Haywood, Richard Delayhaye and John Moore.

Meanwhile, an Over 50s friendly at home v. Warley Strollers on the following day in the rain brought a stunning 10-2 win – a club record margin.

Goals rattled in from kick off to the final whistle with Gary Davis netting five times, Eddie Tromans four and Andie Lissemore once.

Hartshill Strollers were 4-0 up by half-time and a clean sheet – and many more goals - seemed to be on the cards after the interval.

But with the score at 5-0, the visitors found their rhythm and popped in two quick goals. However, Hartshill reasserted their superiority and netted five more times.

A notable feature of the win was a highly-effective corner routine which brought at least four of the goals.

TEAM: Kevin Weston, Gary Davis, Eddie Tromans, Martin Broome, Andie Lissemore, Steve Nicholls and Dave Lunn.
