HARTSHILL Strollers will soon need a bigger trophy cabinet after winning yet another walking football tournament.

The club’s South team lifted the cup at the second annual event organised by Dudley Council.

The five-a-side tournament was held at Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, on Saturday, September 17.

The South team beat Birmingham WFC’s Blues team 1-0 in the final, Rob Dunning scoring.

Birmingham WFC is the new name of Beechcroft.

Hartshill’s North team reached the semi-finals but were knocked out by their own club mates in a nail- biting penalty shoot-out.

South beat North 8-7 on spot kicks after the match finished 0-0.

The other clubs taking part in the tournament were Birmingham WFC Whites, Kidderminster Harriers, Mary Stevens Park, Barge City Rollers and Joints R Us.

Adrian Heath was named Man of the Tournament for Hartshill Strollers North and Reg Walker for the South team.

Barry Geyton and Bob Haywood refereed all the games in the tournament as a gesture of thanks and support to the organisers for raising the profile of walking football in the borough.

The Stourbridge tournament victory came only four weeks after Strollers won the Rugeley Cup. The previous month, they lifted the trophy at a tournament in Hereford; and in May at Kidderminster; while they also won the Over 60s Winter Shield v. Birmingham WFC in April.

Squads were:

Hartshill South: Gary Davis (captain), Paul Roche, Reg Walker, Archie Jones, Andy Cotterill, Rob Dunning, Mick Burdis (all used).

Hartshill North: Martin Broome (captain), Kevin Weston, Andy Hewitt, John Moore, Adrian Heath, Adrian Chilton, Mark Grazier (all used).
