Friendly Games 21st January
OVER 65s GO DOWN 0-4
Our Over 65s squad got off to a pretty miserable start to 2018 with a 0-4 defeat in a friendly against Coleshill.
The match was played in a near-blizzard and with icy clumps forming on the pitch.
But the weather conditions were no excuse for a thumping by a better side. The defeat could have been much heavier but for the magnificent efforts of goalkeeper Dave Seddon.
Hartshill seldom threatened the visitors' goal and when they did - mainly through Richard Delahaye - they found their keeper in good form, too.
It looked as though the Strollers had a game plan from the kick off, letting in no goals in the first 10 minutes and looking reasonably comfortable. But, then, the play changed and Coleshill were 3 up by half-time, through slick passing, constant movement and fierce shooting.
Hartshill re-grouped in the second half and blunted the Coleshill threat, but conceded a 4th goal before the final whistle.
Squad (all players used): Dave Seddon, Martin Willetts, Les Evans, Terry Smith, Richard Delahaye, Mick Burdis, Bob Haywood.
It was a cold Sunday morning at Summerhill school, the weather was a mixture of rain. sleet and snow, the over 50s had a friendly game against Coleshill over 50s.
Due to the lack of a proper referee, Kevin Weston, Hartshill Strollers over 50s manager reluctantly took up refereeing duties.
The game started off fairly equal, but within 10 minmutes, Coleshill started to be on the attack more, this resulted in a goal when Pete Gibbons was left stranded, Hartshill started to get the upper hand after the goal and it wasn't long before Ray Woodhall got an equaliser.
At half time, the score was 1- 1.
In the second half, Coleshill lifted their game and again took the lead when a fierce shot found the bottom corner of the Hartshill goal, the Hartshill keeper had a vicious shot hit his finger in the first half which meant this was the end of his game, later found out that his finger had been broken, luckily, Paul Roche, the other Hartshill keeper was watching the game and had to be called upon to go in goal,(of which we thank Coleshill for their agreement), although Coleshill had more of the ball in the latter stages, there was few chances until a couple of minutes from the end when the Coleshill striker placed the ball into the net past the goalkeeper.
All in all, not a good result for Hartshiill, there will be a return at Coleshill later in the year.
