RALLYING ROUND FOR LATHAM

Hartshill Strollers players have rallied round to help a young footballer who is fighting cancer.

Six members attended a fund-raising show night at Sedgley Working Men's Club on Tuesday, November 21.

The star-studded event was organised to raise money for medical treatment for 21-year-old Latham Grant, who plays for Stafford Rangers FC.

Latham, who lives in Sedgley, has been diagnosed with a rare form of neck and head cancer.

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment offered a poor prognosis, so friends and family have launched a £40,000 appeal to raise funds for alternative treatment abroad.

The Sedgley WMC show was attended by Bernard Bustin, Mick Burdis, John Cooper, Steve Nicholls, Ivan White and Bob Haywood (and their partners).

The link between Hartshill Strollers and the stricken semi-professional player is through Cooperman's partner, Anne-Marie, who went to school with Latham's mother.

The artistes - singers, musicians and comedians - appeared for free at the £5-a-ticket show which also swelled the fund-raising with a raffle, card game, auction and the sale of sandwiches and cakes.
