Walsall Tournament Saturday 18th March 2017
A cold, wet windy afternoon did not deter several teams from across the West Midlands turning up at The Walsall FC Academy tournament.
Hartshill Strollers were drawn in Group C along with: Birmingham, Wolves and Wyndley Strollers.
Hartshill Strollers Team: Kevin Weston, Steve Nicholls, Gordon Lee, Mick Burdis, Dave Lunn,
Phil Bate, Derek Hughes, Dave Shaw, Eddie Tromans, Pete Gibbons.
Goal Scorers: Steve Nicholls, Eddie Tromans, Kevin Weston.
Each Game was 15 minutes straight through.
Hartshill Strollers 0 - 0 Wyndley Strollers.
Hartshill had never been drawn against Wyndley Strollers before, but this was a well matched game and although there were several shots on target, the goal keepers did an excellent job of keeping the goal tally down. Both teams played well and gave it their all. Well done to our goalie Pete Gibbons who made several excellent saves throughout.
Hartshill Strollers 2 - 0 Wolves
Wolves stayed on the pitch after playing a gruelling game against Birmingham. Hartshill Strollers stepped up to take the game with 2 goals scored by: Steve Nicholls and Eddie Tromans.
A good win for Hartshill Strollers as Wolves had a couple of female players that definitely kept the Hartshill boys on their toes, a good, energetic game was played by both teams.
Hartshill Strollers 1 - 3 Birmingham
Hartshill met with their old rivals Birmingham, in the last game of the round. A good match was played by both teams, but Birmingham took the lead to take them 1-0 up within the first 5 minutes. This was equalised by an excellent goal from our own Kevin Weston, however Birmingham went on to score 2 more goals, the final result was a disappointing blow for Hartshill.
The final round in the group went to penalties. This was due to Hartshill having equal points and goal difference with Wyndley Strollers and the head to head was also a draw. Unfortunately we lost this round 3 - 4, with one of our penalty takers striking wide.
Kevin Weston, Steve Nicholls, Eddie Tromans and Dave Lunn.
Well done to Birmingham who went on to win the tournament by beating Port Vale 2-0.
