National Tournament First Round. Oak Park Leisure Centre Walsall Wood. Sunday 4th June 2017

Today we travelled back to Oak Park Leisure Centre in Walsall Wood, to cheer on Hartshill Strollers, over 60’s team, who met with their old friends and rivals Birmingham aka Beechcroft, for the first round of the Walking Football National Tournament.

Hartshill Squad: Dave Seddon, John Green, Tony Beckley, Steve Nicholls, John Cooper, Eddie Tromans, Richard Delahaye, Barry Geyton and Bernie Bustin.

Referee: Steve Dredge.

Hartshill Strollers 0-1 Birmingham.

These 2 teams are very evenly matched and both sides had problems with getting the ball past the goalies and in the back of the net. It was eventually in the second half that Birmingham managed to slip a sneaky goal past Dave the goalie. Hartshill managed to hold their own, with several near misses but unfortunately were unable to score.

This means that last years National Champions are out of the tournament in the first round.

The game was a lengthy 25 minutes each way which makes it quite a long, gruelling game, so well done to all players on both teams for giving it their all throughout.

Good luck to Birmingham, we hope you do well throughout the rest of the tournament and end up taking the trophy home.
