WFU Central Region Zone B match versus Shrewsbury WFC

Our over 60's team met Shrewsbury WFC over 60's in the second round of the central region qualifying round of the WFU 2016 National Tournament, the match was played on a nuetral ground at the Halo Center Bridnorth on Sunday 7th August.

Both teams were surprised at the size of the pitch and with the agreement of the referee made the pitch a couple of meters narrower on both sides with all of our kit bags; the surface was also of concern with an old style 'astro' surface filled with sand

The Strollers finished 2 - 1 winners, so going through to the next round in October.

Strollers started well and were in command from early on, but then almost went down to a fine shot from the right, but goalie Davd Seddon made a flying save for a corner. Strollers took advantage of the sloping pitch and a strong wind and looked comfortably in charge with some nice football. They went ahead with a fine goal from Richard Delehaye in the 5th minute, it continued with Strollers in command and they then went further ahead in the 18th minute with a neat goal from our prolific striker John Cooper.

After the turnaround Strollers lost their composure and let the opposition come forward too easily, and perhaps did not cope with the uphill slope and the strong wind from the right wing as well as they hoped, there were some good defensive moments to keep out the 'Shrews', but in the 40th minute eventually conceded a deserved 'shrews' goal. Strollers knuckled down well to see the game out but really should have won much more comforably than the score suggests.

Man of the Match, a tough call as they all played well, but Tony Beckley shaded it with some well timed tackles in defence.
