Two games at home today Sunday 5th March 2017.
3rd game of over 60's Winter Shield v Birmingham; and a general friendly v Hindlip
Winter Shield v Birmingham
Hartshill went into the game with the same team that had played in the previous two games, however the Birmingham side showed several changes.
An early long range strike from a Birmingham defender found its way into the Hartshill net, and from then on Hartshill found it difficult to find any rhythm.
Birmingham increase their lead midway through the first half, when their striker shot in from close range.
At half time Hartshill discussed a change in tactics and improved markedly on their first half performance, but conceded a third when pushing for a goal.
John Cooper finally managed to score with about 5 minutes remaining to make the score 3-1. Birmingham were now looking to run the clock down, but one of their defenders, stepped into the penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty kick to Hartshill. John Green stepped up and fired his shot low to the keeper's left. The keeper, who had already made a number of fine saves, dived full length to push the shot wide of the post.
The match finished 3-1 to Birmingham, leaving the Winter Shield level with one match remaining.

Friendly V Hindlip
Strollers were soon under pressure from a strong Hindlip team and as the game developed Strollers found themselves 3 behind by about half way through the 1st half. They rallied a bit and got back a goal with a good strike from Reg Walker.
During the break there was some hard talking about what had gone wrong so they restarted with a more positive approach and took control and soon got a goal back with a strike from Mick Burdis soon followed by another goal from Kevin Weston.
John Moore strayed into the penalty area to give the visitors a penalty from with they scored. The game finished as a 4-4 draw following a strike from Stroller's Phil Bate.
A fair result in a competitive and 'friendly' game well refereed by our own Bob Haywood.
